We embarked on an American art and architecture-focused adventure in the country’s heartland. Our journey took us to Bentonville, Arkansas, where we experienced the world-class Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art with guided tours throughout the museum and its extensive grounds, filled with outdoor installations. Designed by Moshe Safdie and founded by Alice Walton, the museum was created to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that united the power of art with the beauty of nature.
Architectural highlights of the trip included a private tour of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home and a visit to the famous Mildred B. Cooper Chapel, designed by Wright’s protégé, E. Fay Jones, in the Arkansas wilderness. Other highlights included a golf cart tour through the town of Bentonville to view its numerous outdoor art pieces and learn a bit of Arkansas history, as well as a visit to the recently reopened Walmart Museum with its reimagined exhibition spaces. Our stay was punctuated with locally sourced meals at the area’s top restaurants, a visit to Blake Street—a new, curated social and wellness hub—and accommodations at the 21C Museum Hotel in the heart of Bentonville.
